[ooc] old post i just found.[/ooc]
It was early, around six in the morning on a bright Saturday, and Spring had hit full force. The sun was streaming down, the trees fresh with new leaves, and wild flowers popped up all around the rim of the track. Such a day was normal, and you would see the odd horse out working, fitting up and whatnot, but today was different. Today was the day before Tor's maiden race, and nerves were buzzing from every person at Godolphin to the point where you could almost feel it in the crisp morning air, except of course, Matty."Mads, let him out a little, Tor can handle this!" the crackling voice of Chase rang through the walkie talkie that was hooked on the pocket of Matty's faded blue wranglers. The blond shook her head with a laugh and kept riding, leaning over Tor's chestnut neck as they loped across the polytrack. His ears flicked back and forth as his steady muscular hind end propelled him forward, his neck arched and tucked to his chest as the steady rhythm of his hooves thudded against the track.
Tor's teal bridle stood out against his blazed copper face, as Matty held him back, her muscles straining as the two year old colt chewed on the bit, ticked off with the slow pace. "Stop it." Matty grumbled as she half-halted him, and to her relief he responded and ceased his constant pulling. "Thank god your not in a bull-headed frenzy. You have a big race tomorrow, you just need to get outside for a little stretch, no more." her tone stayed strict as she fought to keep him at the steady canter. Ears back and pink nostrils flaring, Tor stayed at the slow pace, but deep down he wanted to just bolt and gallop as fast as his legs could carry him until he reached Belladona, who was being exercised by Ben on the other side of the track.
Matty restrained the colt with all her power, and even leaned over to rub his neck, "Eeaasyy, your fine, there is nothing to get worked up over." she said softly as she looked over and spotted Bella and Ben coasting steadily across the ground. The young mare had just been broke, and was still a little wild, so Matty had gotten Ben to cowboy up and get some miles under her hooves. "Oh NO you don't." Matty said as she got her seat firmly under her and hauled Tor around in a circle as he ignored her pats and fought the bit to try and break free to run the other horse down. He shook his head and came down to a jiggity trot, ears back and long thick tail snapping at his sides. "Good, much better." Matty praised as the breeze picked up and he finally came down to a walk, his head sucked up tight against his chest as he marched across the polytrack with long even strides and the odd jig behind, his ears layed back as he stomped over to where Chase was standing with the talkie in his hand. "He looks great, a little eager, but great." Chase let a smirk play across his lips as he stuck his hands in his jacket to keep them from fiddling. "Yeah, he is in love with this track. Personally, it's not my fave, but if he likes it, that's what matters. Although, so far he seems to like all conditions. The happiest I've seen him was that day in the mud." Matty shook her head, a slightly confused look falling across her blue eyes. "Whatever. Who cares what he likes, long as he can do his best, not much more you can ask." she said with a shrug. Tor snorted and she let him have some rein, as he leaned down and rubbed his head on the teal polos wrapped around his front legs that were flecked white with foam. "Alright, let's go you. Got to get you all pretty for your debut. Chase, can you go get Ben? Bella should be done now, and I want you two to work Cj today, it beautiful and early, you'll have lots of time." she said with a stern look, as if to make sure there was no other options. Chase opened his mouth to argue but shut it reluctantly. "Fine. You know I don't like that horse. He creeps me out. I'll make Ben go get him." he mumbled as he jogged off down the track.
Matty dismounted easily and did up her stirrups, pulling the reins over Tor's head. "Alright bud, let's go." she cooed as she started to walk off the track and to wards the courtyard where they would split off to the stables. Tor snorted and dragged himself away from rubbing his face, following like a loyal dog beside her, his tail giving the odd swish at his copper flanks as he leaned over and went to nip Matty's pants. "Nu-uh." she scolded, giving him a good half-halt, and he stopped mid-bite, his ears flicking back with a huff as he walked proudly beside his rider. Tor was alert, his deep brown eyes watching every movement and every sound as his shod hooves echoed out against the cobblestone. The birds whistled sweet songs into the fresh spring air, and the lazy droning of far off bees hummed through the air, as nerves ebbed away like to ocean waves in the Pacific.
