Man O' War observing his new foals. The ground was crisp, yet starting to warm as Spring came around the bend. I had come home to Goldolpin Stables at last, for I had been away with Geronimo, who was not coming back for awhile yet. I walked down to the stables, to find Chase and Ben already leading the mares and outside. Within the large pastures, were posts with rings on them, thirteen posts to be exact, and all in a line. Each mare was tied loosely to the ring, so she could graze and mosey about, and the foals would not dare leave their sides, for the week old little munchkins had only been outside a few times do to the weather. However this day turned out beautiful, the sun shining down and the flowers slowly starting to pop their heads out of the earth, while birds came back and chirped in the budding trees. The sky was cloudless, and it was reasonably warm, and as the mares grazed peacefully, the foals, wearing their new little halters, slowly drifted away to socialize in the huge pasture. All the other horses of Godolphin were also out, enjoying the early spring day, and as I sat down on a bench, looking at the young horses, and the grooming kit beside each post, I smiled. The cars would be arrving soon, with eager new owners wanting to see their new foals.
Hint: Don't forget the foals aren't yours yet. You officially purchase them when they are two and a half, at the final sale, and that will be in a week or so!

I drive into the driveway in my dark blue BMW. Parking it, then getting out. I was here to see Celeste. Spoting the owner of all these amazing horses and foals, Iwalked over to her. Hey I'm so glad to be here.

"Hey Lana!" I said getting up off the bench and shaking her hand. "Celeste is right over here." I said as I walked into the pasture, closing the gate behind us, as I headed down to the line to the very last mare. She was a deep chestnut mare, with a large blaze, and beside her was a small chestnut filly. " She has gray hairs around her eyes, so she will most definatly turn gray as she gets older," I said, giving the tiny foal a scratch, as she came up to sniff us, her little ears forward. She has a tiny little purple halter on, and as soon as she realized there was a bag of treats within the groom box beside the post, she walked away and went to dig them out. " Why don't you just relax with her, the other owners will be coming soon, so you can socialize, and maybe try to take her for a walk, or a graze within this pasture. She doesn't really lead yet, and her mum will be worried so just stay nearby, her purple lead is inside the groom box." I said with a smile as I went over to Rio, the big black colt I was keeping, and scratched behind his ears to his enjoyment.

The familiar red toyota pickup truck rolled in the driveway with the same air it had done last time; with a heavy heart. She hadn't wanted this filly but due to her personality of never wanting to hurt anyone and with the prospect of Boo never producing a foal for the public again she had no choice. She had wanted a colt... One she could love and bond with but this filly... She didn't know what to do with it. She couldn't reject it. She had wanted a Boo foal for longer then she could remember and if this was his last crop for sale to the public then she would never be able to purchase one. Plus, she didn't have the heart to upset Matabon again. So, the filly would come to GMR. Maria knew the most likely path the filly would follow... She'd enter a few races but after that would soon be forgotten and then sold off to the highest bidder. She was a subsititute. One she didn't want but couldn't reject. Maybe in time another Boo foal, hopefully a colt, would be available for the public and match Maria's personality perfectly and they would be a strong team and she would buy him... Maria didn't know but she hoped in the deepest part of her heart it would happen. She regretted rejecting Aploz after what had now happened to him. If only she had kept him... Maybe she would have loved him after a while... Now she was lost. A lot worse then before when she came here to look at Aploz. She didn't want to look at the filly much less bond with her but she had no choice. Seeing Matabon and Lana ahead in the broodmare paddock she walked over in silence, awaiting Matabon's inevitable perky greeting.

I gave Maria a wave, and pointed at a jet black filly beside Flirtacious down the line. She had been here before, and knew what to do so there was no reason to repeat myself. The filly was nursing, and was fascinated by the person approaching her, mind you the milk tasted better then watching some stranger, so she went back to nursing. I brought out my brushes, and started to groom Rio, the colt wiggling his lip when I curried his neck. I finished up, brishing his tufty fuff of a tail, and wispy forlock, and then gave him a couple treats, which disappeared within seconds. He nudged me for more, his little ears forward and his odd markings rather comical looking. "I don't think so." I said with a chuckle at the greedy little food menace, and then gave him a slap on the rump, and knowing I was done, I took off his moms lead, and they went ripping down the pasture.

Maria walked over to Flirtacious and gave her a warm hug, cooing softly. "Hello there princess." She said happily. She had missed Flirt so much... Sighing she parted from her prize thoroughbred mare to look down at the small black foal beside her. So that was the filly. The one she would eventually own. Maria sighed and shook her head before turning to Flirt again, holding out some treats for her. Flirt lipped up the treats happily before burring with affection, truly glad to see Maria again. Once her foal had done nursing she squealed out happily, rearing up playfully before leaping into a canter, circling Maria playfully. Maria laughed at the antics of her mare, watching her with bright blue eyes. "Missed me too huh?" She laughed watching Flirtacious.

I watched the mare frisking about, the young foal standing to the side, looking small and forgotten. I walked over to the filly, her ears pricked forward when she saw me, and she lipped at my hair as I sat down on the grass, taking out a couple treats, which she nibbled on. I coughed rather loudly. "Maria." I said, as Flirtacious' lead ran out and she had to stay tied to the post. I handed Becki the treats and groom box, then looked at the filly, and walked off to attend to the other foals. The young black was sensative, more so to the stranger, and when brushed she flinched and shut her eyes, and looking like a statue.

Hearing her name Maria sighs and whistles softly. Flirt comes to a halt at her side and she pats her neck gently. "I'll be back princess, don't worry/" She said softly, kissing the mare on the muzzle affectionately before turning to the filly. What was she supposed to do? She couldn't help the way she felt. Sighing she sat on the grass crosslegged and just looked at the filly. She didn't get it. Most horses she could tell their personality straight off and for most of them she got on with them. This filly... she couldn't see anything in her personality and spiked her interest. No fire... no spirit... Just shyness. She had never worked on a shy horse before... Ones that spooked, bolted, reared, fought or took flight... Sure, she had worked with them... but this filly had this deep shyness that not even Maria could suss out. Her... be a racer? Yeah right! Not even Devil Winds could get this filly to run like the wind!

A car pulled into the driveway of a huge stable, I smiled warmly. I loved the look of this place the first time I came here and I could never forget it, Godolphin Stables. Parking the car away from the pastures not to scare any of the horses and foals. I smiled warmly as I got out, the wonderful first home of Swept and now I was getting a new amazing foal. I had invited Artemis if she wanted to come. She had wanted a foal from this foal crop, but hadn't got it. She's get over it, she always did. I was lucky to get Lion when I did. I turned to look at the paddocks with the mares and foals by their sides. Spotting the bay mare and the bright chestnut colt with the star I smiled happily, GS Medallion. I looked around to see who was here out of the future owners. I spotted Lana and Becki. Sighing slightly as I saw Becki.. I knew last time she had some troubles bonding with Aploz. Looking around again I spotted Matabon. Waving to her with a bright smile on my face.

That was it, Glory could not take it anymore. The filly had had enough of this person who looked apon her like she was a dirty dish rag. She spun around, ears flat back, and stomped off, to the other side of Flirtacious, and nursed agian, then nuzzled the sude of her mother, and continued to glare at the stranger as if to say, "Hey, you think I am slow? Why don't you try and catch me dough-head." and with a flick of her heals was off, and galloped down the pasture, bucking and kicking, and ran right into Rio purposley. Rio spun around and took of chasing, the two blacks, tiny figures zooming around the three big oak trees in the pastures. Stormwing, Rio's dam was a legend, and a fast one at that, and she chased after her young colt, trying to round him up agian. Flirtacious was stomping her hooves, wanting her filly back at her side, mind you Glory had better things to do.

I gave a wave to SC and went jogging over, leaving Maria to round up Glory. "Hey! Nice to see you," I said, as I opened the gate for SC and then walked over to the colt. Lion was watching her, his eyes wide at someone new, and he nibbled on the grass at his hooves, but kept a wary eye on the new person. Once close enough he looked up, and emeidatly started rubbing his face on SC, looking for treats and a scratch. "He definatly is not afriad of you," I said with a chuckle as he turned to get his jump scratched, and munched on the grass much more relaxed.

Maria sighed and knew Matabon would curse her for causing this riot. Walking to Flirt she untied her from the post and looked at the black filly. Great(!) One with attitude. Sighing she looked at Flirt as she grew more and more anxious. "Okay, okay, I'll go get her." She said relunctantly as she tied Flirt back up and picked up Glory's leadrope. Walking away from Flirt she went after Glory, watching her as she walked calmly towards her and Rio. The last thing she wanted was Flirt to get over stressed and cause damage. The last time she flipped she had almost killed someone... That was because a stallion had earned her heart and then trampled on it like it was worthless. He had been instantly sorry and they were forever lovers but that was the past. She didn't want to cause Flirt anymore heartache. Sighing she watched the filly, waiting for the opportune time to catch her and take her back to her mother.

Glory watched Becki approach, she was ready. As soon as she was reachable she dodged left then deeked right out of grasp and slipped away, galloping to the other end of the feild, kicking her heals and feeling rather proud of herself for tricking the grumpy stranger. I dismissed myself with aplogies from SC, and walked over to Becki, giving three sharp whistle blasts, the young filly came galloping up, that was the dinner call. I handed her a treat, then clipped her lead on and handed it to Becki. "Its all about that bond," I said, looking at Glory who was clearly cross at me for handing her over to the one she had just escaped. "Why don't you grab those treats and try improving it." I said in a half short tone, as I went back to SC. Silver should be arriving soon, and I watched Major, the black colt really want to leave his mother's side and go join Rio, but Twist was tied, and he was not yet that brave.

Maria watched in silence as Matabon called and caught the filly Maria had come to collect for Flirt. She just nodded quietly before leading the black filly back to Flirtacious. She could tell Matabon was getting quite stressed with her and so just to cool her off a bit tied her beside Flirt (for her mother's good) and then fetched the treats Matabon had so shortly mentioned to her. Picking them up she returned to the filly and sighed. Maybe in time they could become close but she highly doubted it... Lowering her hand low enough for the filly to grab the treats that laid on it she sighed, leaning against the fence in the paddock as Flirt nickered to her young filly, resting her head on Maria's shoulder happily. She couldn't see Flirt in the filly nor could she see Boo but she knew without even having to know the filly she wasn't going to be like either of them. She was her own person (or foal if you insist) and nothing would sway the filly otherwise. Sighing Maria looked down at the filly, her mind still unchanged from when she got here but more deeper in thought about the long term prospect of this filly at GMR.

Glory lipped at the treats, eating a few. "Hmmm, maybe this stranger wasn't so bad.. she did have treats," was the expression the filly showed on he dark features, her tiny star standing out as she ever so gently rubbed her head on Maria. It looked like an awkward yet genuine rub, and Glory then sniffed her for more of those tasty little treats.
